No. 5 My Favorite Muffin
340 California Ave.

My Favorite Muffin is a great place to go if you’re looking for something simple to eat, like a bagel, a muffin, or a breakfast sandwich. They also have pretty much every kind of juice you’d have a craving for in the morning, including your basics: orange, grapefruit, cranberry, as well as a huge selection of Odwalla juices. Their muffins are truly the best in town, and the flavor selection seems limitless. My personal favorite is the chocolate cheesecake muffin, as it literally tastes like a fabulous dessert smashed into muffin form and categorized as breakfast.

They’ve also got a vast selection of bagels to choose from, including jalapeno, pizza blueberry, onion, and pretty much any other type. They also have a great selection of cream cheeses, and will toast your bagel if you say the magic word. Their breakfast sandwiches are pretty basic, but they’re undoubtedly healthier than the ones at McDonald’s.

No. 4 Heidi’s Family Restaurant
2450 S. Virginia St.

Heidi’s Family Restaurant has been around pretty much forever. For as long as I can remember, Heidi’s has been a killer place to have breakfast on any day, with anybody, at any time of the morning. They’ve got amazing omelets that go great with their renowned home fries, and their pancakes, although basic, are little round circles of heaven. Heidi’s also makes a mean mimosa, and has prices that are incredibly fair considering the amount of food that gets served on your plate. Heidi’s also has a great environment, if you’re one of those people, like me, who loves the vibe of breakfast. Heidi’s opens at 6:30am.

No. 3 Stonehouse Café
1907 S. Arlington Ave.

Stonehouse Café has an awesome breakfast, ranging from $5-$15 for a morning meal. They serve all of your basic items, as well as items that are a little more unique, including a pecan waffle to die for. They also have banana rum French toast, country-style biscuits and gravy, and a bacon and spinach omelet. My favorite breakfast item to order at the Stonehouse Café is the crab cakes, because this isn’t one of those situations where they’re stingy with the crab and overdose on the bread. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. Breakfast here begins at 7am.

No. 2 Peg’s Glorified Ham & Eggs
420 S. Sierra St

Peg’s Glorified Ham & Eggs is a place that, finally, has duplicated itself for Reno’s morning pleasure. Although it’s always crowded, this place is totally worth it, and so incredibly delicious. I’m also a huge fan of their coffee, and tend to lean towards the eggs benedict every time I place an order here. The omelets at Peg’s are really well-known, and absolutely huge. I couldn’t finish a full one if somebody paid me. The help is great at this place, as I’ve never once experienced a waitress that was crabby, slow, or careless with my order. Their huevos rancheros are also a great selection. Peg’s opens at 6:30am.

No. 1 Rapscallion
1555 S. Wells Ave.

Rapscallion Seafood Restaurant is good no matter what time of day. Their breakfast and Sunday brunch is fabulous - so fabulous, it really is the prime spot to dine during the morning hours. First off, if you go for their Sunday brunch, you get a free glass of champagne. That’s a selling point in itself. Also, the extensive menu includes amazing dishes like chicken-fried steak and eggs, Belgian waffles, eggs benedict, and more.

Rapscallion is a nice place to go because it’s fancy and done right. The servers are very professional, the food is made with the utmost of attention, and the seating is comfortable and pretty private, if you score one of the awesome booths along the wall. Prices are fair, although a little high, but it’s totally worth it because you truly won’t experience a more fulfilling brunch then the brunch that’s offered at Rapscallion. Rapscallion opens 10 a.m. on Sundays.
